Langour In The Balcony by Chris Perks
Mission of Burma — Fame And Fortune
Volcano Suns — Balancing Act
Sonic Youth — Starpower
Minutemen — The Anchor
Lifter Puller — Bloomington
The Aislers Set — The Red Door
Yellow Fever — Ratcatcher
Black Tambourine — Black Car
The 8 songs which make up my playlist share, for me, an interesting tap into American post-punk music from the 1980s and 1990s. In some cases, the links between bands are an obvious stylistic nod; others are simply bands I love or have found recently, and in all cases they are songs which get a massive thumbs up from me and get a lot of time on my stereo.
Mission of Burma are fascinating, a sort of USA Gang of Four who can easily sum up the entirety and mood of early 80s USA post punk in 3 minutes 35. Bands I've loved for years get a mention (Sonic Youth, Lifter Puller) along with some I've only discovered over the last month or so (Volcano Suns, Yellow Fever). Lastly, I really wanted to include some San Francisco noisy C86 bands (Aislers Set, Black Tambourine) who represent my pretty unconventional introduction to indie music through some good older people with good CDs and an excitement to throw them on me.
