I like robots. They're an indicator of so much we hope and dream for, a titanium-sealed, jet-propelled insurance policy for the future. Yet they date in seconds: the difference between alien, awe-inspiring design and pure kitsch is just a matter of (less and less) time.

I imagine music made for robots, by robots, would straddle and swoop either side of that line. Tongue-in-cheek and poignant; filled with artificial energy or a mesmerizing music-of-the-spheres calm; sometimes discordant and disturbing, sometimes faintly silly.

Tonight I'm going to see a screening of Transcendent Man and hear Ray Kurzweil speak about the Technological Singularity at the Science Museum in London, courtesy of Google. This is what I'll be listening to on my way there.
